Newsletter #29 - April 2021

Dear Friends of Mary,
Happy Eastertide to you! The colored Easter eggs are disappearing fast, as we celebrate the rising of Our Lord to a new life of glory and power. The restrictions on our indoor worship have lessened enough that we were able to have people present at the liturgies of Holy Week. A visiting priest friend of ours was our main celebrant, assisted ably by our new chaplain, Father William Ryan. We were filled with admiration for the mystery of the priesthood of Christ when a third priest friend joined them for Holy Thursday and Good Friday – such a blessing! We hope that your celebrations for the Triduum and Easter Sunday were meaningful and nourishing for your souls, after last year’s starvation diet!
You, members of Our Lady’s Auxiliary, continue to support us with monthly financial donations and material ones as well. We are grateful for all the canned goods, bags of rice and beans, cereals and coffees, fresh produce and eggs – you would think we had a community of 40 instead of 14! Bless all of you; we are truly appreciative and grateful to you.
We have a transfer Sister from the monastery in Erie, Pennsylvania, with us now: Sister Pia Therese of Mary, the Mother of God. I think her title is bigger than she is! She stands short but has a big heart and a bigger smile, and we are very happy to welcome her into our home.
The Lord is standing at our doors, knocking, and if we hear Him and let Him in, He will come in and break bread with us. Let us welcome Him too, with joy and peace, witnessing to His Easter message that death is not the end, and that He wants us with Him forever. God bless and protect every one of you!
In the Risen Lord,
Mother Mary Bethany and Sisters

I also wish you a happy spring, and Christ’s Mercy. As we move slowly into a more “normal” world post-pandemic, we still have to observe the lessons we have learned over the last year: social distancing, masks, and strict cleanliness. That being said, it looks like we will not be having a luncheon this year. But we can have fund raisers of a sort. As soon as we get the details I will let you know.
According to Mother’s letter, there are 14 Sisters now. I still have a few of their Christmas letters available. It has a photo of each Sister with her full name. If you would like a copy, please let me know.
The sisters are so grateful to all who have been sending them a monthly donation. Their mailing address is still P.O. Box 4210, Georgetown, CA 95634. Remember, they cannot receive USPS mail at their street location: it has to be sent to the P.O Box. However, UPS, Fed EX, and Amazon do deliver to their street address, which is 6981 Teresian Way, Georgetown, CA, 95634. Also, please remember to make any checks out to their correct bank name: Carmel of the Holy Family and St. Therese.

I wish to report that our little Holy Face kits are more popular than ever. If any of you would like one, or would like to help in producing the kits, please contact Barbara Sloan at sloanbt@gmail.com.
Also, since we are a Catholic community of support and love, I would ask you in your prayers to remember to pray for all of the Sisters’ intentions. On our website, we get regular prayer requests, and some of them come from such far-away places as Sri Lanka and Australia! The Sisters pray for all the intentions that come through the website, as well as all of your intentions too. Please pray for our little Auxiliary community; together in prayer we are stronger!
In Christ,
Patty MacEgan
